Auditions During the audition, you will be asked to sing short exercises that demonstrate your range, vocal timbre, and sight singing ability. Singers who are new to the WCC are encouraged to bring a short prepared piece, but this is not absolutely required. All singers will be required to sing a brief excerpt from the final chorus of Haydn’s Creation. A score of this excerpt can be downloaded here: Audition excerpt. Sopranos should prepare to sing measure 12 through measure 18. Altos should prepare to sing measure 10 through measure 21, beat 1. Tenors should prepare to sing measure 10 through measure 19, beat 1. Basses should prepare to sing measure 14 through measure 21. You should sing your excerpt using the English words. You will be given your starting pitch, and a simple piano accompaniment will be provided (not including your part). Singers who are chosen for the Choir will be contacted by the director no later than one week following the audition. Those not chosen will be invited to audition again in the future. The vocal needs of the organization frequently change. Consequently, we encourage singers to remain in contact with the WCC for information on future needs. Regular members are asked to commit to an entire season's participation. Rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings 7:00 - 9:30pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1904 Winnebago Street, Madison, Wisconsin. Additional rehearsals may be called as needed. |
