The holiday message of peace and good will to all people resonates across the centuries. The centerpiece of the WCC’s 2017 holiday concert is Gerald Finzi’s lyrical retelling of the Christmas story, In terra pax, featuring baritone and soprano soloists with members of Sinfonia Sacra, the our own chamber orchestra. Complementing Finzi’s music are Mendelssohn’s moving prayer for peace, Verleih uns Frieden and an energetic Gloria from J. S. Bach’s Mass in A major (also with Sinfonia Sacra). Additionally the choir will sing a moving Libby Larsen piece entitled Cry Peace, and Giles Swayne’s timely Winter Solstice Carol. Settings of favorite seasonal carols round out the program including a lovely arrangement of Silent Night by one of our favorite composers, Peter Bloesch, and Behold The Star by William Dawson.

A celebration of music of all the Americas—North and South—and all Americans.
In recognition of Robert Gehrenbeck’s tenth anniversary as Artistic Director, the WCC has commissioned a new work, Alleluia, by New York-based composer and Juilliard faculty member Wayne Oquin. Inspired by Randall Thompson’s classic setting of the same one-word text, Oquin’s new version will update Thompson’s musical style in his own, unique harmonic language. One of today’s most talented choral composers, Oquin’s style bears similarities to Morton Lauridsen’s, whose music will also appear on the program.
Also featuring such American masterpieces as Samuel Barber’s Reincarnations, Charles Ives’ Psalm 67, and works by Alice Parker, Moses Hogan, and George Gershwin, as well as music of Latin-American, African-American, and Native-American composers.
I Hear America Singing concert will be repeated in Milwaukee on April 21, 2018 (Free Will Offering):
Saturday, April 21 7:30 PM
St. Paul's Episcopal Church
914 E. Knapp St.
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
